I am an Associate Professor in Literature and Creative Writing at Oxford University's Department for Continuing Education, a Fellow of Kellogg College, Oxford, and the author of 'American Literature and Irish Culture, 1910-55: the politics of enchantment' (MUP, 2013; reissued in paperback 2017). Yeats and the Ghost Club
I gave a talk on 'W. B. Yeats at the Ghost Club' back in November, which you can access here. A longer, more 'academic' version of the article has been published in a book, Irish Writing London, which was published last month by Bloomsbury. It links my interests in Yeats with my new-found fascination with the London-based 'Ghost Club', which still exists - and which has famous alumni including Peter Cushing, Bernard Shaw and Arthur Conan Doyle. I think it's easy to dismiss such spiritualist material as nonsense, but I think we need to take it as seriously as the writers themselves did. See what you think...
